The relationship between acoustic mate attraction displays and sperm quality in the fall field cricket

Project Description: 

he goals of the study were to collect fall field crickets, monitor their acoustic mate attraction displays, and then quantify their sperm number, size, motility, and morphology. Crickets were collected in grasslands around Jokers Hill. We then quantified mate attraction displays and sperm quality in the lab. Crickets were collected by hand. Mate attraction displays were quantified electronically. Sperm quality and number were quantified using specialized microscopes. This was a joint project between Faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students from biology departments at Carleton University and University of Windsor
