Local adaptation of Ascplepias syriaca to the biotic and abiotic environment

The objective of this project is to test for local adaptation of the native perennial plant, Asclepias syriaca, to its abiotic and biotic environment. This project will involve collecting genotypes from four populations and reciprocally transplanting these plants into all populations from Koffler Scientific Reserve to Ithaca NY. We will manipulate the presence/absence of the herbivore community while quantifying the herbivore community, herbivory, and multiple components of plant fitness over the course of three years.
