Koffler Scientific Reserve at Jokers Hill
Located on the Oak Ridges Moraine in King Township, north of Toronto, the Koffler Scientific Reserve at Jokers Hill is an internationally recognized site for cutting-edge research and education in biodiversity, ecology and conservation biology.
Courses offered by the University of Toronto bring students to Koffler Scientific Reserve for the type of hands on experience in natural environments that no campus can offer.
Learning is life long. Koffler Scientific Reserve offers instructive and entertaining learning experiences through special events, including informal guided Nature Walks and more intensive Natural History Workshops. A system of public walking trails offers an opportunity to experience an important piece of Ontario’s natural heritage.

We spend one afternoon per week exploring different subjects in natural history, focusing on the ecosystems of the Oak Ridges Moraine. From geology to aboriginal influences, plant sex to evolution, winter to spring, this course features a little bit of everything and a lot of fun for those who love the outdoors. Dr. Art Weis and students Susana Wadgymar and Amanda Stock explain how global climate change might - or might not! - affect the northward migration of plant species from warmer climates. KSR Researcher wins "Governor General's Academic Gold Medal.
Congratulations to Dr. Jannice Friedman, former KSR researcher, who has received the 2010 ‘Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal’ in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, which honors academic excellence at the graduate level. Key experiments reported in her dissertation, ‘The Ecology and Evolution of Wind Pollination’, were performed at the reserve. Jannice is currently at Duke University supported by an NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
